Good deed : A single move can change one's life

“Every time you do a good deed you shine the light a little farther into the dark. And the thing is when you're gone that light is going to keep shining on, pushing the shadows back.”
- Charles De Lint

Doing a good deed is a simple task. Even a smile can brighten someone else's day. We should be remembered for everything we do in our lives and what we can do for others. To do something good, all we need is a positive intention. Thinking positive thoughts or doing good deeds is not enough until someone admires you or follow your deeds. We decide to make one change in yourself that will make us a better person.

One good deed I do every year is in Durga Puja, that is volunteering and serving food for the people from slums, which is organized by the community. Playing with their children and sharing some good stories is better than anything else. It's good to help them out and share the love with them. It is worthy of spending quality time with old people, children, and their family.

The simple examples of doing a good deed are:

a. If an accident happens in front of ourselves, we should check out if everyone is okay and if not, we should take that person to the hospital rather than running away, just because we don't want to take responsibilities. This is a fact of mankind. Our every move can change the situation in a better way and we can save one's life.

b. Donating winter clothing to a charity or simply to our maid and her children, can save them from cold.

c. Taking care of dogs, cats and other animals from the street, if they are okay.

d. When we are outside, we should stop and look around us. We should take care of our surrounding, the people, animals, trees, and the street. We can't do everything but at least we can try to do a little bit. Anything we do for others is for us only. If we take the first step to do something good in our surrounding, then when we will need help, others will help us. A good deed is simply, a give and take process. It's part of our life.

More often we can see people in our society, let other people go first than themselves. Many give a second thought before doing any good deed, many try to find a reason to do it, and what they will get back in return. But, doing something good to someone doesn't always give us something in return rather than self-satisfaction and happiness. We can't do well to others if our thinking is narrow.

We don't need a reason to help others, we should feel blessed if we get opportunities to share some love with others. Our days are happier when we give a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind. The power of touch, the kind words, a smile, listening ears, good compliments and small act of caring can change one's perspective of living their life.
