Communication works for those who works at it

Communication word has originated from a Latin word "Communicare" which means "to share". Communication is simply an exchange of information between two or more people. It's about sending and receiving information between people. Emotions, ideas, facts, opinion, concept, feelings and beliefs are basic elements of information. A day can't be spent without using communication. Communication is not all about language, people may communicate with another person through body language, gesture, action, and behavior. The medium of communication can be by using writing, speaking, broadcasting or in action. It helps in understanding each other story. People can share thoughts, experience, knowledge, discover and entertain through communication.

Types of communication :

Verbal Communication: Verbal communication is an oral communication where the message is transferred from sender to receiver through the spoken words. The words that are sent by the sender can have its own feel, expression, thoughts, ideas, and opinion. The power of the verbal communication depends on the speaker's body language, the right usage of words, tone, clarity, and volume of words. It all depends on sender how he or she can make the other people understand and influence through his words to get appropriate reply or feedback from the receiver. The verbal communication can be oral or written.      The oral includes speaking and listening and in written communication includes reading and writing. Visual communication also comes under verbal communication like TV, Radio, transferring comment or message in social media etc. For example, making a presentation on selling a product in the office. To present the document, the speaker tries to make people understand about the product and try to satisfy the listeners to get proper feedback.

Non-verbal Communication: Non-Verbal communication is transferring the message without using words that are spoken or written through facial expressions, body language, gestures, sign and symbols, proximity, touch, dress up, silence and personal appearance. This can have a great impact on the listener and the outcome of the communication.
For example, making body contact like shaking hand with a person means greeting each other, even without using words.

"The most important thing in communication is to hear what isn't said."
- Peter F. Drucker
  Austrian writer and editor

Interpersonal Communication: Interpersonal communication is face to face conversation that takes place in both verbal and non-verbal communication by which people exchange feelings, information, and thoughts. For interpersonal communication, one must have skills like communicating verbally or non-verbally, decision making, listening skills, problem-solving, negotiation, and assertiveness. For example, shaking hand with each other and making conversation.

Barriers of Communication :

Physical Barriers: Not being able to communicate with a gesture, body language, behavior and action doesn't make the communication effective. For example, if one yells at a person who is no capability of listening, then one fails to make that person understand what he wants to say. Due to the message not been sent, disconnection in telephone, the problem on television due to thunder can also cause a barrier in communication that is transferred through technologies.

Perceptual Barriers: This is a barrier that happens when one gets to understand that what he or she is saying to another person is not able to understand the context or even sarcasm.

For example, in the society, a person fails to make their maid understand what they are trying to say which can happen due to lack of illiteracy. The conversation may lead to misunderstanding and assumptions.

Emotional Barriers: The thoughts and emotions that we can't share with others easily. The person who is not confident about what he is saying can face this barrier. For example, anger and anxiety have a negative impact on one's brain that damages creativity and communication skills in society and technology.

Cultural Barriers: Different people of the different culture can face this barrier because of their cultural norms. They may not be able to understand each other's responsibility or practices. People need to respect and understand to overcome such a barrier. In society, mostly in the office, there are many cultural issues that are relevant to the business, so the employees need to adapt the work culture to succeed.

Language Barriers: Language is the key factor of communication. It is also known as the linguistic barrier.  This is a very common barrier which is faced by most of the people while traveling, in the workplace, in social media or in society. When people don't understand each other's language, the communication becomes very difficult and the linguistic barrier can lead to misunderstanding or misinterpretation. If a speaker and receiver are not able to communicate with each other due to the language barrier, they can't work together. There are more causes of linguistic barrier like regional accent, no clear speech, using wrong words, spelling, grammar, and literacy. One can overcome the language barrier by using translation, visual communication, interpreter and learning basic languages that are used commonly all over the world or own country.

Gender Barriers: Men and women follow a different style of communicating with each other. They have their own way of sharing thoughts and ideas. When they fail to make the other person understand their thoughts, it affects their relationship and creates misunderstanding. If the gender barrier takes workplace, its become more difficult to work together. For example, the conversation between men and women in social media can cause gender barrier, if one of them gets hurt emotionally or take the comment very seriously. Men focus on logic, facts, and reasons but women focus on meaning, feelings, and senses.

Interpersonal Barriers: This barrier occurs by using inappropriate words during communication between two or more people and by keeping one another to reach out to each other and opening themselves up. The interpersonal barrier can also cause due to lack of motivation, fear of losing power and control, lack of trust, lack of co-operation, poor relationship and lack of knowledge of non- verbal communication. For example, unwilling to explore new ideas, experience, lifestyle, behavior, opinion, and priorities can create a communication barrier every day over our lives.
